Today’s Gardening News: Gardening Supply Purchase Leads Detectives to Elaborate Pot Growing Operation
According to a news story on MyFoxKC.com, police in the Kansas City area discovered a huge marijuana growing operation when someone noticed a man buying an unsually high amount of gardening supplies. The tip led them to two homes he was renting. The basement was filled with marijuna plants worth several hundred thousand dollars, which the police promptly seized. Maybe he should have ordered his supplies online? 
In other gardening news, a couple in New Zealand were working in their garden when the wife pulled up an old bomb along with the weeding she was doing. The neighborhood was evacuated and while the bomb was properly disposed of. Authorities think the bomb was a “souvenir” from a nearby bombing range. Gives a whole new meaning to the term “explosive growth”, doesn’t it?
Speaking of explosive growth, an 85 year old man in Lebanon grew a sweet potato that weighed a whopping 4.75 pounds! He plans to eat his prize potato, either with pumpkin pie spice and lots of butter or in mixed into a souffle with vanilla pudding and milk. Anyone else getting hungry?
Finally, ShowbizSpy.com quotes actress Eva Mendes as saying she is so comfortable in her own skin that she does everything in the nude-even gardening. Mendes says that she trims her bushes and weeds her flowerbeds au natural. Don’t know about you, but that sounds uncomfortable and a bit dangerous. A garden is a wonderful thing, but it also holds it’s share of dangers, from sharp roots to thorny stems and maybe even the odd patch of poison ivy. Not to mention that one really doesn’t want to get Miracle Gro or any other garden chemical (natural or otherwise!)on ones private areas-and then there are bugs..nope, I think clothes are essential gardening tools! Hope she doesn’t have any rose bushes and wears plenty of sunscreen!
