Protect Your Plants!

by

Good morning!

My landlord decided to have our building powerwashed. What a nightmare! The building looks great but the yard is a mess. The hedges are brown, the lawn full of dead patches, and my roses had ugly spots on the leaves and some of the branches just up and died. :-(
When you’re having work done on your home, be sure to protect your plants. Move or cover what you can and be sure to rinse what you can’t throughly with the hose. Unfortunately, most people who come to your home to work on it (like my lovely powerwashers) won’t protect your plants for you. I’ve had my roses mowed to the ground by a self proclaimed “landscaping” company, had flower posts literally tossed aside, and have had flower beds trampled. It’s crucial to talk to the contractor and make sure he knows to treat your garden with care. If you have lots of containers move them out of the way, and make sure the workers know to let you know if they need something covered or moved. If despite all of this you still end up with damaged plants, don’t be afraid to complain! Our gardens can’t speak for themselves, they need us to do it!
