Gardening Information on Dandelions
Dandelions, those pesky, never seems to go away, yellow flowers that pop up everywhere and at the most inconvenient times during the summer in your well manicured lawn or garden. They seem to multiply like crazy and they end up making you more and more frustrated as they appear one by one. But, did you know there is some good to the yellow annoyance? That’s right, there is good behind the pain.
Dandelions are an edible flower. No really they are.
Commonly known as a French term of dent de lion and its meaning is-tooth of the lion-Because if its jagged edges that it bares. Many people don’t want to look out on their lawn and see the yellow flower that become puff balls and then tend to spread like wild fire once the wind blows their direction. But, the good news is, the plant is really harmless, other than being a pain in the grass.
The positives of these yellow flowers are they help give bees nourishment and therefore will bring better pollination to your growing garden through the season. They also, with their bright yellow petals, attract ladybugs, which are beneficial to your garden as well. They help to aerate compacted soil as well. But, the best part is, as stated above, they are edible. The leaves of the dandelion can be harvested in the early spring and mixed with other salad greens or use them in dishes that call for lettuce. They taste great on tacos and also cut into small pieces and added on top of lasagna. So collect them and eat them and enjoy the fact that they grow abundantly.
